What is a Doula?
The word, "doula," comes from the Greek word for servant in an ancient Greek household. Among other things, this slave helped the lady of the house through her childbearing.
Do you provide prenatal and/or postpartum visits?
Yes, our basic doula Services include two prenatal and one postpartum. More are available if needed or requested.
What can you expect during these visits?
Assist in creation of a birth plan. Discuss breastfeeding, goals for your pregnancy, natural child birth, atmosphere of birthing room, movement in labor, positioning in labor, etc. Further discussion of nutrition and fluids through the pregnancy to the labor. Pain managment plan will be formed. Visualization training, use of reflexology to assist with easing the pain of contractions.

What is a birth plan?
The Birth plan is a desired wish for the pregnancy includes your birth wish, first stage of labor, second stage of labor, enviroment, type of doctors, number of vaginal exams, mobility, epidural, catheter use, hydration, type of monitoring(periodic, continuous), pain relief options, natural child birth, use of Lamaze/Bradley methods of childbirth, etc.
How many births have you been invloved with?
As a midwife in Ireland I have personally delivered over 32 babies. I have participated in over 100+ births as a RN, midwife, and as a Doula/birth partner.
Can you provide references?
Yes, references will be provided as requested.
What form of training have you had?
I am a Registered Nurse in California with over 20 years of nursing experience. Doula in California, Certified Gerontlogical Nurse, Certified Midwife in Ireland. I have two adult children and have delivered over 32 babies personally and been involved with 100+ births as a Doula/RN.
What types of births have you witnessed (Cesarean, epidural, intervention free, VBAC, teen birth, etc.)?
I have witnessed Cesarean, natural, epidural, intervention free, forceps delivery, VBAC, teen birth, etc.
Does you have back-up arrangements available?
Yes, I have backup so that if for any reason there is a problem with my attendence at the birth another certified Doula will take my place. I have never missed a birth and do not plan to miss any in the future.
Will you provide labor support at my home prior to going to the place of birth?
Yes, I will be in constant contact with the mother for any recomendations and all other support I can provide as a Doula.
Can I call with questions or concerns before and after the birth?
Yes. I welcome all questions about birth before and after.
Do you meet with us after the birth to review the labor and answer questions?
Yes. There is a scheduled post partum visit with mother and baby within two weeks after the babies birth.
